Since 1948, Mt. Airy Lumber Company has been select harvesting timber and cutting them to suit the needs of the market. Select cutting allows the younger trees to mature and then be harvested in ten to fifteen years. Following this practice of proper harvest management, Mt. Airy Lumber Company harvests predominately 90% red oak, white oak and poplar, with the rest consisting of ash, hickory, walnut, cherry, beech, birch, maple and gum.
